701 Whaley Phase II will incorporate other historic structures at the 701 Whaley Complex into a state of the art performing arts center and assembly space. Utilizing an existing historic gymnasium space and indoor pool, spaces will be rehabilitated into various support spaces, with the gym featuring a new 1,000 seat auditorium. A glass floor system will be used to cover the existing pool opening in order to highlight the existing tile work in the pool below. A catering kitchen and other spaces will also be included in the rehabilitation. Work on the new performing arts center will be started sometime in 2015. This building is on the National Register of Historic Places and will seek historic tax credits.
